Petition Premier Palaszczuk

Dear The Hon. Annastacia Palaszczuk Premier of Queenland,

Premier Palaszczuk please don’t let Adani’s destructive Carmichael coal mine go ahead.

The Queensland Government’s decision to approve Adani’s Black-throated Finch and groundwater management plans pushes this Endangered bird to the edge of extinction.

The Southern Black-throated Finch has seen its habitat shrink by 80% and is already extinct in New South Wales. Now its largest remaining stronghold is right in the footprint of Adani’s Carmichael coal mine.

And yet, the Queensland Government has not used its power to protect these threatened bird’s remaining habitat and reject this mining proposal.

Premier, this could be extinction in real time.

In the last 200 years, Australia has lost 29 birds to extinction and we continue to be a global extinction hotspot. According to a recent UN report, one million species are at risk of extinction globally.

Australians don’t want to see more species become extinct on our watch.

Let’s not allow the Southern Black-throated Finch to be the 30th bird that we lose forever.

Premier please stand up for our natural heritage and native birdlife. Please don’t allow this coal mine to go ahead.
